 UKRAINE

Administrative division of Ukraine

Ukraine is subdivided into 27 regions:
- 24 oblasts
- 2 "cities with special status" (Kiev and Sevastopol)
- the Autonomous Republic of Crimea

Oblasts are the major and the most common administrative division in the country and the term is often interchangeably used with the term "region." Almost every oblast is named after its administrative center, while the two that are not named after their historical oblasts (regions): Volynskaya oblast (with an administrative center in Lutsk), and Zakarpatskaya oblast  (with an administrative center in Uzhhorod).
Every oblast is subdivided into raions. There are 490 raions in 24 oblasts and the Autonomous Republic of Crimea.
